The Foundation Guys Inc. Case Studies: Poured Concrete Foundation Wall Repair in Ottawa ON
Challenge
This homeowner was very shocked and upset to find the multiple Cracks in the foundation, not just one but eight. That's eight foundation cracks! Kari had called up our company for a assessment and we found no signs of settlement, no signs of soil pressure. What we did find was exposed rebar. The initial construction of the foundation was not up to standard and the rebar was placed too close to the edge of inside walls. Moisture had come in the wall, the rebar had corroded and caused a horizontal crack in the foundation wall. Also the rebar under the basement windows had been damaged the same fashion.
Solution
We repaired the horizontal cracks by waterproofing the cracks with a rubberized membrane and installed a drainage system from the exterior so that no moisture could be absorbed through the wall to rot the rebar. We then stitched the cracks using Carbon Armor Wall Stitches to reinforce the cracks. The cracks had been repaired with speedcrete (a rapid repair cement product) Under the windows we added rebar and applied speedcrete. For the vertical Crack we used Carbon Armor to reinforce the repair. Kari is now proud to have a solid foundation and a 25 year warranty!
